"His heartfelt songs, with their rich vocal harmonies and range, mix earnest folk, pop, and rock popularized by singers like David Gray and Martin Sexton." - Miami New Times
Singer-songwriter Steven Franz hails from Miami, Florida and is now based in Seattle. Growing up in a family of musicians, Steven quickly developed an ear for music and taught himself piano at the age of twelve. As luck would have it, he later attended junior and senior high school with child prodigy and critically acclaimed pianist Gabriela Montero, who showed him a few tricks.
Steven was in the inaugural graduating class of Miami’s New World School of the Arts, and received the prestigious Dean’s Award from John de Lancie recognizing his “quiet dominance” in the music department. He briefly attended Berklee College of Music on scholarship, but subsequently ended up with a business degree from the University of Florida. This led to an assistant business manager position with Julio Iglesias’ touring company.
Steven has always been a singer, performing and recording with various choirs and bands over the years. He sang with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus on the Grammy nominated Grand & Glorious Great Operatic Choruses under the direction of Robert Shaw. In Miami, he played keys and sang with local bands West 40 Terrain and New Relics.
In 2003, Steven released his first independently produced album, The One You Choose. The album received several awards and nominations in 2004.
Steven’s intimate vocals and thought-provoking lyrics make him an engaging new artist to follow. With the release of his second independently produced album, Skins & Shirts, Steven hopes to find new audiences.
